Dear brothers and Sisters,

Apart from the 2 million people evacuated and deaths due to the recent landslides and floods in Japan, more than 300 people also have died of heat strokes and 22,647 people were hospitalized by ambulance. The Fire and Disaster Management Agency said that most of the people who died are elderly who have suffocated under the record-breaking heat wave in Japan.

We were concerned about the elderly homeless that we assist; so today we went to visit them under a bridge in Shinjuku. It had rained overnight and it was very humid in the morning. We found many of the homeless sleeping on a layer of cardboard on the side of the pavement and trying to deal with the heat. Some of the gentlemen immediately recognized us and received our plastic bags of onigiris (Japanese food made with rice) and cold drinks, along with the Bible verses of the month. Each time we share with them we say at the end: “Iesu sama kara” (From the Lord Jesus). Praise the Lord for His mercy and grace!

During our last visit one of the elderly gentlemen who was almost toothless came and told us:

“I have news, I attended a church nearby and thank you for visiting and assisting us always.”

Praise the Lord for blessing us to hear his testimony after more than 2 years of bringing meals, clothing, praying, and sharing God’s word with them.  Please pray for this gentlemen and that more elderly homeless will see God’s love and care for them through the Gospel and the donations that we have the privilege to give in His name.

This ministry also has challenges. As were ministering we spotted a new face; a lady who after we made our introduction and offered her a drink and a meal, she began to shout for us to depart. Please pray that the lady will come to know us like the other homeless and will be open to receive the donations and word from God.

An American lady came to visit her son on the nearby military base and she was trying to find a church during her stay. The Lord connected her with our church. We challenged her to share the Gospel and the word of God with her relatives and friends. Afterwards, we heard that the lady was expelled from her son’s house without a place to stay. She had no sponsor and no ticket to return home.  Praise the Lord that one of our church families was able to help her by giving her a place to stay and helping her to arrange her return. Please pray for God to strengthen the faith and soul of this lady and all the people that are paying the cost of sharing in love our Lord’s precious Gospel of salvation. (1 Corinthians 2:2)

Thank you always for holding the rope in the sharing of the Gospel through your prayers and support.

In Christ,
Luis
