Eurasia, in its broadest definition, is the combined continental landmass of Europe and Asia. However, in a more narrow sense, Eurasia encompasses only the general area of the Former Soviet Union – fifteen independent countries that emerged from the collapse of the U.S.S.R. in 1991. Particularly, Eurasia is made up of Russia, the Central Asian and Transcaucasian republics, and a few Eastern European nations. In short, Eurasia is where Asia “meets” Europe. Nevertheless, this is a massive region with many different countries and people groups. What connects this intensely diverse population is language. Russian is the predominant language spoken in Eurasia, and it is the common thread which ties the region together.
HeartCry currently partners with missionaries in three countries of the Russian-speaking world – Russia, Belarus, and Kazakhstan. Due to the size and scope of the Russian Federation, HeartCry has further divided it into two parts – European Russia (west of the Ural mountains) and Siberia (east of the Ural mountains). These men are church planters, pastors, and evangelists who have a passion for advancing the church and preaching the Gospel to the lost, that God might be glorified in all of Eurasia.
