Costel Gheoanca, our HeartCry missionary in Bucharest, Romania, pastors Adonai Church. While the growth of the church has been very slow, Costel and his people continue to sow the seed of the gospel in faith.

Recently, he shared the following story of a witnessing opportunity that he had with a Roman Catholic lady:

“It took me about one year to get to this point, but it happened this month. I can see that she is very religious. She has an icon with the Virgin Mary even on her laptop background. So, I wanted to tell her about Christ, but we always ended up talking about matters concerning the block of apartments where we live. This month we had new elections, but I decided not to run for a new term as Vice-President of the apartment facility. So I had a meeting with this lady who is the president, thanking her for our good collaboration. Then I kindly asked her if I may tell her something about salvation. She smiled and agreed. Then I shared the Gospel with her for more than one hour. She was amazed to hear that Christ did everything on Calvary. She believes in human effort for salvation, because that is what she is being told. I explained to her about justification, regeneration, repentance, sanctification, etc. I could see in her eyes that this was something totally new to her. It almost sounded too good to be true.

Then I told her that salvation is personal. And this is where our discussion stopped. She strongly believed that you can do something in order to save those who are dead, even those who are in hell. So she didn’t like the idea that one can do nothing for salvation after death. My feeling is that we had a good discussion and that something of what I have told her will stay with her. So I will continue to pray for her.”

Pray for Costel and his family. Although the population of Bucharest is around two million, Adonai Church grows very slowly due to the city’s resistance to the gospel.
