HeartCry missionary Florin Stan pastors Fieni Baptist Church in Fieni, Romania. His ministry is not limited exclusively to shepherding the local faith family. Florin is faithfully engaged in doing the work of an evangelist. This month he shares he is investing his time in making his evangelistic efforts more intentional:
“The first thing that I did this month was to finish the Gospel tract that I wanted to write for this year. My plan is to pass out evangelistic materials in the entire region, including Fieni and the 12 surrounding villages. There are about 8,000 houses and 40,000 inhabitants in this area. I have worked hard and I managed to finish the Gospel tract and then I had to edit it, in order to look nice. The title of this Gospel tract is The Good News is that You Can Also be Forgiven”. It is based on the conversion of Cornelius from Acts 10. It is written as a narration, highlighting the important things. I think that Cornelius’ experience fits with the Orthodox context, which emphasizes the good works in obtaining salvation. We have already printed 1,000 tracts and we have started passing them out.
A problem that we faced in this process was the rainy weather. It rained very often. We put the Gospel tracts in the mailboxes, so the rain wouldn’t destroy them. I hope to have better weather in May so that we can go out and do street evangelism systematically.
I would like to share with you about an interesting discussion that I had with a man. Several months ago, we helped a man with a medical bed for his brother, who had had an accident and remained partially paralyzed. I decided to preach the Gospel to this man, Mr. Parvulescu, when he came to take the bed, but I couldn’t do it. He came from work with his colleague and they were in a hurry. I could only give him some Gospel tracts. When we passed out the tracts, I came to his house, without knowing it. He recognized me and came to say ‘hi’. I gave him the evangelistic materials and I tried to speak to him about salvation. He respectfully told that his son was a student at the Orthodox Seminary, and his daughter taught Orthodox religion in a reputable high school in our county. By telling me these things he actually wanted to say that he had a good Christian environment and he didn’t need more help. So I told him that I knew something even more special, telling him of about several Orthodox priests who had repented and had given up the priesthood. These priests now go from place to place and preach the real Gospel. I told him about a priest’s conversion; his name is Serafim Scrobut. His testimony can be found on the internet. As I told Mr. Parvulescu about the way in which that priest had gotten to know God, I could see that he was listening to me very carefully. His attitude changed. In the end, he told me he really enjoyed listening to me and he hoped we could talk again. I also hope that God would work in his heart and that I would be able to call him ‘brother’ one day.”
