For logistical purposes, it has been necessary to divide the areas where HeartCry missionaries work into six distinct geographical regions, two of which are further divided into sub-regions. As some of these regions and sub-regions do not strictly adhere to the most commonly accepted geographical definitions, we’ve included the following descriptions to help clarify our terminology.
Africa: This region is defined as the area encompassing Sub-Saharan Africa (all African nations which lie south of the Sahara Desert). It spans from Mauritania in the west to Somalia in the east, and from Sudan in the north to South Africa in the south. It does not include the northernmost portion of Africa – from Morocco to Egypt. HeartCry currently supports missionaries in six countries in Africa: Botswana, Kenya, Malawi, South Africa, Uganda, and Zambia.
Asia: This region is defined as the area encompassing the lands east of the Central Asian republics: from Pakistan, India, and Sri Lanka in the west to Japan and Papua New Guinea in the east.
- South Asia: This sub-region is defined as the area encompassing the Indian Subcontinent and China. It spans from Pakistan in the west to Sri Lanka in the south to China in the north and east. HeartCry currently supports missionaries in four countries in South Asia: Bhutan, China, India, and Nepal.
- Southeast Asia: This sub-region is defined as the area generally known as Southeast Asia, plus the island nation of Japan. It spans from the Indochina Peninsula in the west to Japan in the north to Papua New Guinea in the south and east. HeartCry currently supports missionaries in three countries in Southeast Asia: Cambodia, Indonesia, and Japan.
