I, Ruth Sitali Poniso, am the second born in a family of eight, having three sisters and five brothers. I was born to non-Christian parents on February 2, 1981 at Namakomba Village, Chief Mulangu, District Shang’ombo. I am married to Kuyumbana Poniso, with four kids. I was brought up following the pagan religious activity of my family. We observed animism, spiritism, and ancestral worship. I was deeply involved in them, as well as cultural feasts such as Siyemboka, Liyala, and Mikiti ya linyalo. In these feasts, participants are exposed to sinful practices such as night fornication, beer drinking, and smoking. In 1996, a white man came to install a shallow well in our village and, sponsored by the Baptist Mission of Zambia, he started to organise a Bible study after each day’s work; this was attended by many. In his lessons, he taught about the birth, life, death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus, according to Matthew’s Gospel. In the story, we learned the works, love, power, and attributes of God. I was convicted and invited Christ as my personal Saviour and joined the church.
