I was raised in a home in which both parents were Roman Catholics. Therefore, I was a Roman Catholic from birth. My parents were sold to brewing alcohol, and my siblings and I grew up influenced by the same. Though I attended church occasionally, I never understood salvation. I thought that as long as I went to church and participated in the Mass, God would accept me and take me to heaven.

In 1998, I visited my sister in Nairobi. While I was there, one of her neighbors invited me to her church. This was the first time in my life that I attended any church that was not Roman Catholic. There I heard that man is a sinner from birth and that the only Savior of sinners is the Lord Jesus Christ. I did not understand much, but I realized my sinfulness and my need for the Savior. I cried to Jesus to forgive me of my sins and to cleanse me from my unrighteousness. My life was different from that day on. God gave me peace and joy, and I truly felt that my hope is built on nothing less than Jesus’ blood and righteousness.
