As a Christian, you have been called to participate fully and sacrificially in the Great Commission (Matthew 28:18-20) by either going to the unreached or supporting those who go. However, it may not be God’s will for you to do so through this ministry. There are many other worthy ministries to which the Lord might direct you to give. Therefore, please seek the Lord in prayer and in the study of the Scriptures before sending financial support to HeartCry. Furthermore, please do not send financial support to this ministry:
- If you are unable to care for your family. In I Timothy 5:8, Paul writes, “But if anyone does not provide for his own, and especially for those of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.” If present difficulties limit your ability to give to missions or make it entirely impossible, your worth before God is not diminished. Your value to Him is not dependent upon your ability to work or give, but upon His immutable, covenantal love that was established in Christ before the foundation of the world. The account of the widow’s mite is proof that God does not despise the smallest gift (Luke 21:1-4). Paul also writes, “If the readiness is present, it is acceptable according to what a person has, not according to what he does not have” (II Corinthians 8:12).
- If you are not giving to your local church. Paul writes in Galatians 6:6, “The one who is taught the word is to share all good things with the one who teaches him.” And again, in I Timothy 5:17, “The elders who rule well are to be considered worthy of double honor, especially those who work hard at preaching and teaching.” The Great Commission is never to be advanced at the expense of the local congregation. Be faithful in first things—namely, your local church.
Our Attitude Toward Your Giving
At HeartCry, we realize that we are stewards of the gracious giving of God’s people. This is a heavy burden for us to bear, because we are convinced that we will be held accountable for our stewardship of every cent on the Day of Judgment. In Luke 12:42-46, Jesus warned:
“Who then is the faithful and sensible steward, whom his master will put in charge of his servants, to give them their rations at the proper time? Blessed is that slave whom his master finds so doing when he comes. Truly I say to you that he will put him in charge of all his possessions. But if that slave says in his heart, ‘My master will be a long time in coming,’ and begins to beat the slaves, both men and women, and to eat and drink and get drunk; the master of that slave will come on a day when he does not expecthim and at an hour he does not know, and will cut him in pieces, and assign him a place with the unbelievers.”
Therefore, “knowing the fear of the Lord” (II Corinthians 5:11), “we have as our ambition, whether at home or absent, to be pleasing to Him” (II Corinthians 5:9, 11). And “we are taking precaution so that no one will discredit us in our administration of this generous gift; for we have regard for what is honorable, not only in the sight of the Lord, but also in the sight of men” (II Corinthians 8:20-21). Please pray for us, that we might always increase in the fear of the Lord and walk in God’s wisdom. We are aware that our decisions will have eternal consequence. Who is sufficient for these things (II Corinthians 2:16)?
Our Administration of Your Giving
All undesignated giving is directed to our General Fund, which is the backbone of the HeartCry Missionary Society and our priority in prayer. All donations to the General Fund go to the following:
Missionary Support. HeartCry supports missionary families on five continents—Europe, Africa, Asia, South America, and North America. The support of missionaries is our primary ministry and where the greater portion of all donations are allocated. The great majority of our missionaries are church planters with families. We have made a commitment to provide for their support, and they depend on us monthly.
Project Support. In addition to the personal support of our missionaries, HeartCry supports those projects that are required to advance the missionaries’ ministries: land purchases, chapel procurement, theological education, literature and translation projects, ministry tools, travel expenses, and medical/benevolence needs on the field.
Administrative Support. It is our desire to glorify God by keeping all administrative costs to a minimum. However, it is important to understand that administration is also a spiritual gift (I Corinthians 12:28) and those who administrate are ministers of Christ. It is a complex endeavor to send missionary support to more than sixty countries, to ensure the completion of overseas projects, to monitor ever-changing domestic and international laws and regulations, to complete audits, and to prepare financial reports for donors. To treat administration as a regrettable necessity betrays a misunderstanding of the Scriptures, which hold faithful stewardship in high esteem. To neglect administration would be careless and would bring harm to the Great Commission.
