Testimony of Conversion

My name is David Nu, and I was born on December 25, 1984. As a kid, I lived in a village called Thing Kong, where highways, high schools, hospitals, and electricity are foreign concepts to the population. Our way of travel was made up of dirt paths that snaked through jungles.

I was born to Mr. Bu Hluk and Mrs. Hlu Bu; Godly parents that I love. Though they are illiterate farmers, they devote themselves to the Lord with all of their strength. I am the only one among their sons who didn’t want to work in a secular job, but desired to serve the Lord. My mother taught me about God, Sin, and Salvation. She told me about the great missionaries, preachers, and evangelists of the age, and these stories inspired me to become a great servant of God one day, if that was His will.

It wouldn’t be until I entered middle school when I would find true salvation.

I went to Sunday school every week, and even with that constant positive exposure, I still thought I could get into Heaven by my good works.

Back then, we were members of a Presbiyterian church, and a liberal one at that. Some of the pastors didn’t even believe in the infallibility of the Scriptures!

Nevertheless, I tried to be as good as possible, obey my teachers, and follow the Commandments as taught by them.

By grace, in 1994, when I was 12, I realized that my actual situation was one of damnation; I was still a sinner, and I still needed Christ.

I confessed my sins, and finally accepted Jesus as my personal Savior and Lord.

Call to Ministry

After being born again, I spent time with the Lord every day. Where there was training at the local church, I was present.

I started sharing the good news with my friends, classmates, and cousins. Some of them actually became believers, and are members of the local church.

In 1999, when I was 15, I was chosen to be a youth leader of our local church, and I accepted. When I passed my matriculation exam, I prayed that God would send me to a Bible College so that I could be more effective. The elders of my church agreed, and encouraged me to attend Southeast Asia Bible College.

While at SEABC, God blessed my evangelism efforts.

In my final year, we had an outreach ministry that the Lord tremendously blessed. Our team was split into groups who would go to hospitals and rail stations in Yangon City every Friday evening.

During my summer breaks, I even used to conduct weeklong teachings of the Gospel to my village. Every year, about 50 people attended, and around 30 usually came to Christ.

When I recall my experiences, I am sure that God has called me to this service. When I shared my Gospel sharing experiences with colleagues and faculty members, they were glad to hear of what the Lord had done.

When I received my Bachelor of Theology degree, the SEABC’s board and faculty members asked me to teach a Personal Evangelism class, and to be a registrar of my alma mater.

On the other hand, a pastor from Bread of Life Baptist Church had invited me to become an assistant pastor.

I felt called to the latter.

We started a great project, and planted five new churches in just two years! My senior pastor and I often went on Gospel trips where we’d share the good news. When people accepted Christ as their Savior, we baptized them and planted a new church.

I have decided that I will never quit serving the Lord, or to cease in obeying the work that has been called to attention to further his kingdom.

God has taught me many lessons concerning His ministry as I have participated in teaching and pastoral ministry. I was privileged to plant a church in Ywa Magyi village, and built a bamboo church there that would end up with about 40 members.

In 2006, I went to India for further study, and completed my Master of Theology at the Evangelical Theological Seminary of Asian Christian Academy. I was able to serve as a student leader for the duration of my time there. There were about 250 students, and I led them in various school projects.

In 2011, after returning from India, I served the Lord again again at SEABC for a year, and after that, God led my cousin and I to establish a Bible school, and I have served as the principal until now.

In 2014, God opened the door for me to research Puritanism at the Puritan Reformed Theological Seminary in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Throughout this, I prayed to the Lord for the opportunity to plant another church.

On June 5, 2019, God answered my prayer, and I am looking forward to this congregation being one of growth and steadiness.
