The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is situated at the eastern tip of the Arabian Peninsula and boasts a population of nearly 10 million. Dubai, the largest and most populous city of the UAE, is a location of immense diversity and is considered the top tourism destination in the entire Middle East. Arabic is the national language, while English is the most commonly spoken language. Even though it possesses some of the largest oil and natural gas reserves in the world, the UAE has been able to economically depend less on those resources and focus more on tourism and business. The official religion of the nation is Islam, with a majority of the Muslims in the nation being Sunni rather than Shia Muslims. Although the government claims a policy of tolerance toward other religions such as Christianity, the freedoms of assembly and expression are severely limited.
