Albania is a small country located on the Balkan Peninsula in Southeastern Europe, bordered by Montenegro to the northwest, Kosovo to the north, North Macedonia to the east, and Greece to the south. Albania has a rich history that includes being part of the Roman Empire, the Byzantine Empire, and the Ottoman Empire. After decades of isolation under communist rule, Albania transitioned to a democracy in more recent history. Despite being one of the poorest countries in Europe, Albania has made significant strides in modernizing its infrastructure and economy. Although Islam is the largest religion in Albania, many Albanians identify as secular or irreligious. Albania officially guarantees freedom of religion in its constitution, and there is a small Christian population seeking to be faithful to the gospel of Jesus Christ.
