I was raised by a single mother in a small village of Sterkstroom in the Eastern Cape. At the age of sixteen I had to leave home to finish my high school studies in Cape Town. In Cape Town, together with my sister, we rented a back yard shack of one of the members of a nearby Baptist church. We began to attend church services with them, as we were taught to back at home. As time went by, I became actively involved in all youth activities, however, that did not really mean anything to me. Furthermore, I read the bible and prayed, but all that made no sense to me, until I came to know the Lord as my personal savior.

One Saturday I was attending a youth conference. All I can remember is that there was this deep conviction within me, and I told my friend next to me that I am forgiven. She was a bit puzzled because she did not see me raising a hand or going to the altar. But on the following day I went forward. I began to experience difficulties at school, as I was still a teenager. I remember other students making fun of this born-again village girl, but through God’s grace, all that mockery never discouraged me.

A few years later, I was introduced to reformed theology, which was viewed in our churches as some kind of cult which causes lot of confusion. It was in this period of learning the doctrines of grace that I married Sizwe. In the first year of our marriage we studied the book of Romans together, which gave me a totally new perspective of things I thought I knew. Through the years, God has used my marriage to help me gain more understanding of and greater appreciation for the gospel.
