In 2014, Paul became a co-elder of Grace Baptist Church in Eldoret with fellow HeartCry missionary Naphtally Ogallo, who had been instrumental in Paul’s recognition and acceptance of right doctrine. Paul and his wife Pamela have two daughters: Faith and Grace.

Testimony of Conversion

My parents were religious people. Both of them went to church every Sunday. My dad belonged to an African traditional church, while my mother was a Roman Catholic. Because our parents went to different churches, we children were divided. My brother went to my dad’s church, and I went with my mother to the Roman Catholic church, which I joined while I was still a young boy. Growing up, I believed that salvation is earned by works of righteousness. I joined Altar boys, served in church, and even helped the priest in serving sacrament and in every religious ceremony, believing that that these works within the church would earn me salvation. But in reality, I did not know Christ.

In 1993, while in high school, I was invited by a friend of mine to a Christian meeting. The sermon that was preached was from Hebrews 11:6:

“And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him.”

Hebrews 11:6

The preacher spoke about faith and said that Jesus Christ is the only Mediator between God and men. These statements perplexed me, because in the Roman Catholic teachings, we were ordered to confess our sins to the priest. But God’s Word teaches that Jesus Christ is the only Mediator. The Lord opened my eyes, and I realized that I had no genuine relationship with Christ. I realized I was missing something precious in my life, and I was convicted that I was a sinner who deserved judgment. But God sent His own Son to die on the cross for my sins! The preacher also quoted I John 1:9

“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

I John 1:9

I saw that I had always been wrong to confess my sins to the priest every Saturday. I got on my knees, acknowledging my sinfulness and crying to God to forgive me and cleanse me. From that day on, I have placed my trust in the Lord Jesus Christ as my Savior and King.

The Lord has visibly changed my life. Before He saved me, I had no desire to read the Bible. But ever since that day, there has been a growing desire for His Word. I also am compelled to witness to others of the Gospel of Christ. There are many other changes in my life. I used to be controlled by my anger, taking revenge at those who had wronged me. Now, while it is true that I still get angry, the Lord has increasingly helped me to overcome my anger, and I have seen an increase of self-control and patience. In 1994, I was baptized with much water in the Indian Ocean at Mombasa.

Call to Ministry

The Bible teaches that “if any man aspires to the office of overseer, it is a fine work he desires to do”

I Timothy 3:1

In 1998, I began to desire to be in full-time ministry within the church. In 1999, this desire grew stronger and clearer, and I resigned my job and joined a Bible school in Mombasa, Kenya, so that I might be better equipped for ministry. After a year, I moved from Mombasa to Kitale, where I planted a church called Redeemed Gospel Church – Kitale, which was under the charismatic Redeemed Gospel denomination. I served there for four years as a pastor. In 2005, I was moved within the denomination to plant a church in Sigunanga Estate of Eldoret. While I was still in Eldoret, by God’s providence, I was introduced to Pastor Naphtally Ogallo of Grace Baptist Church in 2007.

At the beginning of 2008, there was significant post-election violence that took place in Kenya, and Eldoret was greatly affected. My family (together with many others) took refuge in Pastor Ogallo’s home. During our time there, Pastor Ogallo introduced me to the Doctrines of Grace. Later that year, I moved to Mombasa to serve as a pastor in another charismatic church. However, because I was now beginning to understand and love the Doctrines of Grace, it became increasingly difficult for me to serve in that church with a clear conscience. I began to question the teachings and practices I had previously accepted. Throughout this period of my life, Pastor Ogallo was a constant influence in my life, and I often shared with him my challenges and burdens. Eventually, through these circumstances the Lord made it clear to me that I could not continue in the charismatic church system.

In 2013, the Lord in His providence brought my family and me back to Eldoret. We returned determined to learn and serve Him under Grace Baptist Church, where we became members. By early 2014, the church recognized my desire for the ministry; but my need for proper Biblical training was also evident. Pastor Ogallo introduced me to the Kisumu Reformed School of Theology (KReST), where I began to learn more of the truths of the grace of God. In June of 2014, Grace Baptist Church set me apart to work alongside Pastor Ogallo as a fellow elder.
