I did not believe in Jesus Christ the first time someone shared the Gospel with me. I was angry and hopeless after a landmine exploded on me while I was a soldier in the Cambodian Army. We soldiers were still having skirmishes with the Khmer Rouge holdouts in the countryside and mountain areas. Losing my left leg above my knee changed everything for me. I could not walk normally anymore. I could not ride a motorcycle because I would lose my balance and crash. I could not continue being a soldier in the army, which was my career. I could not get a job earning money to live. Everything seemed wrong and hopeless for me.

Almost two years after I lost my leg, I met a good woman and married her. Her name is Nahvee. We began to raise children and do the best we could to get by. Things were never easy for us.

About twelve years after I lost my leg, a Christian shared the Gospel of Jesus Christ with me again, and this time he gave me a Gospel tract to keep. I took it home and read it many times. I read it to my wife, over and over, wondering if this was true.

There were some Christians that met together in my village. I asked my wife to go to their meeting, see what she heard them saying, and come back and tell me what was said. Since travel was difficult to go more than a hundred meters, my wife walked to this church by herself. When she came back, I asked her what they said and what they talked about at the meeting. Nahvee told me, “You need to go there with me and see for yourself.” So, that is what I did.

One of our neighbors was a member of the church in our village, and he gave me a ride to the church. When I saw how the Christians acted together and related to each other, I was impressed. Their love and fellowship were beautiful to me, to have friends, and to be like a family.

The people in the church did not look down on me because I had only one leg. They welcomed Nahvee and me to come and learn about God’s Word with them. From that time, we continued to go every week and fellowship with God’s people. As we listened to God’s Word, faith in Jesus Christ came to me, and I believed the Gospel.

In 2004, I came to faith in Jesus Christ, and I have followed Him ever since that day. As I have studied God’s Word, the desire to serve Him kept getting stronger and stronger in my heart. I want to give God all my life and to increase faith and humility. I am grateful for the opportunity the Jesus has given me to teach His Word and serve His people.
