Brother Sam Odeny pastors Grace Baptist Church in Oyugis, Kenya. Here are some segments from a recent update, including a unique opportunity to preach the gospel:

“We continue to do well in our church services and outreach activities. We have around 25 adults attending our church. They don’t all manage to attend every Sunday service, and the number of adults usually ranges from 12-19 on a Sunday. The children also range from 10-22 in a Sunday service. Currently I have been studying the book of Hebrews in the adult Sunday school. For the sermons I have been doing a series in Genesis on the life of Joseph.

One of our fruitful outreach activities is meeting with a youth football team (‘soccer’ for Americans) every Friday evening for Bible study. Currently we are studying the Gospel of John. We meet in our church building and start with some simple games for around 10 minutes to make them feel at home. We normally make the study interactive where everyone participates. We ask questions and they give answers. They are the ones who read the Scriptures. They are also free to make observations and ask questions.

Through our engagement with these children, God opened another door for outreach. The team entered a tournament with other teams. All the teams, together with their supporters, gathered together in a school nearby and called me to minister to them.  The total number of the audience was approximately 600 people. I went with my family and, using their public address system, presented the gospel to them in an open-air meeting.”
