How is a church assured of the healthiest possible transition from one pastor to the next?  How is doctrinal truth safeguarded and handed down to the next generation?  The Apostle Paul states the only biblical solution in 2 Timothy 2:2.

“The things which you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses, entrust these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also.”

2 Timothy 2:2 (NASB)

The late pastor Sandi Sonteya in Cape Town, South Africa understood this biblical principle.  He devoted himself to discipling men, unaware of just how quickly his leadership role would be handed to one of his disciples.  When Sandi suddenly passed away several months ago, one of our deep concerns was God’s provision of another faithful shepherd to ensure the ongoing health of the church.  This need was intensified by the church’s unique ministry to vulnerable persecuted believers among an immigrant population from North Africa.

How happy HeartCry was to receive a letter from Northside Baptist Church stating, among other things, “Sandi has laid the foundation and mapped out the path forward, and has given the church clear direction and motivation to carry on this work. The vision of the church, as defined by Sandi, was simple: ‘Making disciples everywhere.’ This is the direction the church will continue in, or cease to exist. …The church has unanimously affirmed and made the decision in favor of Neil Meiring carrying out the pastoral duties.”
