“Imagine being the pastor of a new church plant in a situation where you have such a good supply of able church-service leaders that when you are planning for Sunday ministry you are at a loss who to put on the list? Well, I currently have 9 men, in addition to myself, all waiting to hear what role has been given them for the coming Lord’s Day. And when you give out the assignments, pleasant surprises abound. The biblical well-researched prayers, the well-planned songs, the reading well-prayed over before the day. You end up wishing the service time was longer.

Edgar and Kelvin are 2 of the men mentioned above. For the last four weeks we have been having Edgar living with us in our home for apprenticeship in ministry. One Sunday, after service, I heard both of them talking about meeting in the week on a Thursday. Come this day, Edgar asked for permission to go to town to meet his mum, who was coming to Nairobi, and also meet with Kelvin. He came back home later than usual in the evening and I was curious to know what kept him out for that long.

To my amazement he said, ‘Kelvin and I always have accountability meetings on how we are walking in the Lord, where we pour out everything to each other, including temptations. It’s a time for rebuke, correction, encouragement, and prayer. Not only that, we also seek out our believing friends who have slackened in their walk with the Lord.’ I then pronounced blessings on their good sense in maintaining Christian accountability, ‘Well done Eddy, come to the table and have your dinner as we talk more about this.’

Young Men

Wow, I can write 5 pages on these young men in our midst! If all our fellowship members were doing this with one another, my workload would be reduced by half. Kelvin just graduated with a degree in mechanical engineering and he is thinking ministry in the future, just like the majority of these young men. The result of all these blessings? Apprenticeship is needed

I believe that our country is in need of serious biblical and godly ministers. These will not drop from heaven but need to be nurtured.

Pastor Sam Oluoch, Nairobi, Kenya

Apprenticeship is in the offing. I am praying that very soon I will have at least three of these men in my house to be apprenticed for ministry. Edgar is already in as he waits for universities to be opened, probably next year. Do pray for this matter. I believe that our country is in need of serious biblical and godly ministers. These will not drop from heaven but need to be nurtured. If our ministry will help in producing a few for the nation, praise be to God.”
