Alex Palade regularly engages the college students with the gospel in his area. His unique ability to communicate the good news often disarms the carnal arguments that many use to justify themselves. This month Alex shares some of his encounters:

I witnessed to two Rroma young men working in the campus area. One of them believed he was going to heaven because he said he didn’t sin. The other young man  understood he was going to hell. He needed to hear more about what God said about sin in order to understand that he was a sinner that was under God’s wrath. There is an evangelical church in their village, but they had never gone. They had never read the Bible. Both of them understood for the first time that they were going to hell. One of them asked me what they could do in order not to go to hell when he understood that good works were not helping him. In the end, they both said they wanted to put their trust in Christ and that they would go to church. I gave one of them a New Testament as he didn’t have one.

Then there were two more students in Brasov who had come from Libya. A student from Bangladesh was sitting on the same bench with them. One of them had read the Bible before, even though he comes from a Muslim country. They considered themselves non-religious people. They believed that the Bible had been changed by people. I told them that God had changed my life through the Bible by helping me understand that I was sinful and lost. The events that had taken place in Syria led them to the conclusion that God was not just when He allowed innocent children to be killed. We had to explain to them who God is. When we started telling them what God said about killing and immorality, they became silent. They didn’t understand why Christ had to die. Hearing how just God is and that we all deserved to go to hell, they understood our need for an intercessor. They thanked us in the end.

Then we met a student from Azerbaijan. He came to Brasov to attend university. I shared my personal testimony with him and Jesus Christ.  I talked about His divinity and about why He had to be the atoning sacrifice for us. He listened to us very carefully because it was a message he had never heard before. I was so happy and amazed that God allowed us to testify about Him to students who come from places which are so difficult for the Christian faith.  They heard the Gospel of the Kingdom of Heaven.

I met a 43-year-old married woman who used to work as a nurse, but she quit after several years, as she couldn’t stand to see the doctors’ and the nurses’ indifference to their children patients who were children. Then she became a law student. She worked as a manager in a construction firm and started her own business with her husband. I had shared the Gospel with her husband several days before. After a few days, my wife and I met with her. She understood for the first time what the Bible said about sin and everlasting punishment. Although she had tried to read the Bible in the past, she didn’t understand anything. She wanted us to help her as she was so open and thirsty for the truth. I haven’t met anyone like this in a long time. My wife and I have met her twice and now she understands she could only be saved through Jesus Christ.

Our neighbor has a brain tumor. We have preached the Word to her and her husband several months ago. She used to attend a Baptist Church in the Republic of Moldova when she was young. Now God is being searching her heart as she is terrified that she is going to die and go to hell. She and her husband bought a house for their family, but have no peace and joy. They asked the Orthodox priest to come and pray for their house, but it brought no relief. One day she asked my wife about how she could receive forgiveness. Her husband was afraid that I wanted to change his religion, but when he heard how things go at our church and that we also had a love feast, he said he wanted to come and see. My wife and I shared the Gospel again with the woman a few days ago; we read the Scripture together and prayed for her. She said she wanted to put her trust in Christ for salvation. They have a 5-year-old daughter who has befriended our youngest children. She likes it when we read from the Bible and pray together. She began telling her parents to kneel down and pray to God before bedtime. We pray that God would save this family.

A couple was sitting on a bench and smoking. They live together without being married. The guy had a schoolmate in high school who repented. When the testimonies of me and the brother that was with me, he realized that his schoolmate had told the truth when he said that God had changed his life. He said he was seeking God. When he realized he was going to hell, he asked us how he could be saved. The young man was very interested in the words of the Scripture. His girl friend also admitted that she needed God. We gave them New Testaments and gospel tracts. He said he would like to talk to us again.

We talked to an atheist and his friend. The atheist didn’t know that sin was so serious to God. He realized for the first time that he was going to hell. He listened carefully to us as we shared with both of them the way in which they could be saved. Still, this atheist said that the Bible was not logical for him. He believed that the theory of evolution was more logical. He didn’t reject God’s divinity, but he just wanted to understand the truth. I gave him a book written by a former atheist who turned to God and he accepted it gladly. The book speaks about Christ’s divinity.
