This past week I traveled to a small rural village in the northern part of Peru called Frijolito. The community is located in the midst of the Andes Mountains, about an hour from the border with Ecuador. The purpose of my visit was to deliver and assist in the installation of a tent for a bi-annual conference.

Missionaries and pastors arrived with their families from various surrounding villages, some walking as far as a day’s journey to participate in the conference. The conference focused on the pastoral ministry and family. Situated in a very hot climate, the people were able to enjoy the teaching a bit more comfortably with the shade provided from the newly installed tent.

In addition to installing the tent, I also accompanied Pastors Javier Carhuapoma and Jose Luis Siancas in distributing 200 Bibles to twenty-four local pastors and members of their congregations. Many of those who were receiving the Bibles did not yet have one of their own; their expressions of joy and gratitude were unforgettable. A few local pastors with whom I was able to talk with shared that these Bibles were a great tool in expanding the Kingdom of God.

I am thankful for the opportunity to participate in the conference. It was a true blessing to stay among the people and share in their customs and joy as they received the Word of the Lord.
