We started the month of October with lots of activities dedicated to the freshmen students. In the beginning of every school year we try to get to know as many freshmen as possible and to integrate them in our community. The Freshmen Event was an excellent opportunity to get to know them and explain to them our purpose and activities. There were lots of freshmen and the students prepared an excellent program. We did four stations with our activities and every station had interactive presentations and activities. The stations were evangelism, discipleship, prayer and community. Then we had a panel discussion with two young graduates, a man and a woman, and a moderator facilitated the discussion. It was brilliant! They both lived in the student dorms while they were students. Their experiences and insights were awesome and fun! We all loved what they said and they were very helpful for the students. While one student was from a Christian family, but he understood the Gospel and turned to Christ while we did book reading at our community meetings.  The book was “Justification and Regeneration” by Charles Leiter.  I’m sure many students relate to his testimony since they come from Evangelical families. Please pray for us that we integrate them in discipleship groups as soon as possible, since from now on most of our activities will be evangelistic, and they need to help in their walk with Christ.

We explained to them the evangelistic SHIFT conference and encouraged them to bring their colleagues to the conference. That would be the best, if they come with their colleagues from University. We are also doing on-line campaign and we have had slow registration from it. Please continue to pray that the students see the ad and register. Next week we want to put a roll-up in the hallway of the University. Pray that we receive confirmation from the dean.

Through the SHIFT conference we want to challenge the students to think in terms of absolute truth and to show them that God has a purpose and a vision for all aspects of life and our societies. We want to show them that this vision makes sense, it produces results, it functions, it transcends cultures, and God has communicated it through His word. We chose four areas to work out this theme: career, human relationships, social action, and science.

We did a lot of planning this week for the conference and the follow-up activities. Coordinating the project was a complex job for me. We hope and pray that many non-Christians come and we develop friendships with them during SHIFT and they will be interested in coming to other events. We will follow-up with specific activities after each topic in order to continue to build relationships such as a seminar about career, No WiFi Night, a visit to a hospital or orphanage, a trip to the mountain, a science debate, Christmas celebration, and evangelistic ski camp.

This week I was in the hospital for some thyroid investigations and I met a woman who had breast cancer. She found out a few days ago about it and she is desperate and very depressed. She cries all the time. I shared the Gospel with her and read to her from the New Testament. She appreciated it very much. However she doesn’t get the Gospel because she’s so entangled with this earth and she cannot think of the afterlife. Please pray for her salvation.
