Church Planter – Francistown, Botswana
In 2013, after completing a Bachelor of Theology, at Christ Baptist Seminary in Polokwane, South Africa, Michael came to Central Baptist Church in Gaborone, Botswana, pastored by HeartCry missionary Monametsi Bahudi. The church recognized and affirmed Michael's gifting and calling in preaching God's word. Michael was sent for an internship at Kabwata Baptist Church in Lusaka, Zambia, which he completed in July 2015.
Michael is from a small town just south of Francistown, Botswana. Francistown is the nation's second largest city and is often called the 'northern capital' of Botswana. With the help of Kabwata Baptist Church and HeartCry, Gaborone Central Baptist Church is sending Michael to pastor their church plant in Francistown.
Testimony of Conversion
I grew up in a Christian family, attending Sunday school and church every week. Because of this, I thought I was a Christian, and also because I could memorize Scripture and even do good works. My true conversion began with a deep desire to have a personal walk with the Lord Jesus Christ. I knew about Him but had no personal relationship with Him. In 1997, a visiting preacher shared God’s truth about salvation from Ephesians 2:8-9, and through the grace of God the gospel was explained to me clearly. It was only then that I realised I am a sinner and need a Saviour. That conviction led me to earnestly seek the Lord and allow Him to do the work of salvation in my life. I understood that salvation is by grace alone and no work of mine could merit it. That began a wonderful journey of faith and trust in the Lord.
Call to Ministry
My ministry experience began with youth ministry at Apostolic Faith Mission in a town known as Selibe Phikwe, Botswana. I served as a youth leader with no biblical training from 1995 to 1997, then went on to train as a worship leader in South Africa. In 2005, the Lord raised in me a greater hunger and desire for true biblical teaching, which culminated in searching out the right Bible college. Through the help and advice of friends, I was led to Christ Baptist Seminary in Polokwane, South Africa. In 2007 I enrolled for a Bachelor of Theology, which I completed in 2010.
After all this enlightenment, I had a deep sense of need to teach and preach the truth to my people in Botswana. When I returned back home after completing my studies, I faced the challenge of finding a church to fellowship with. My previous church did not share my new doctrinal convictions. This led me to seek a church that upheld biblical theology and it became a long journey.
Toward the end of 2013, the Lord providentially brought me to Gaborone Central Baptist Church. As I served the Lord with the brethren in this church, the burden to teach and spread the true gospel was reawakened in me. It became evident that the church was also in need of men who could take up the teaching and leading role, and needed men committed to teaching the whole counsel of God. I now have the privilege of a full-time pastoral role in teaching the Church biblical truth, and in doing so, I have assurance that I am fulfilling His call upon my life.
In 2002, I started my studies in Cape Town, South Africa and at that time I developed friendships with many peers. Since I was far from my parents, I led a sinful life due to peer pressure. In my second year, a friend introduced me to YMCA and I started to attend Bible studies. Through those Bible lessons from YMCA, I felt the conviction to change my lifestyle. It became clear that I could not do it by myself. I was a sinner and I needed a saviour. It was explained to me from the word of God that only Christ by His grace could save a sinner like me. I prayed and asked God for forgiveness of sin, and that same year I joined Assemblies of God Church. As time went by, my life began to change. I left the old friends, started to focus on my studies, and God developed a hunger in me to learn more of His love. I was baptized in 2007, and now I continue placing my trust in God.
