Church Planter - North India
Machir was raised in a Hindu home in North India. After hearing the Gospel for the first time in 2002, the Lord saved Him, and he began to serve as a church planter in 2004.
Testimony of Conversion
My name is Machir R. from a village in North India. I am from a Hindu family, and until I was an adult, I had never heard the Gospel of Jesus. Before I knew the Lord Jesus Christ, there was never any peace in my heart. Really, I was bored with my life.
However, one day there was a meeting in my sister’s village close to where I was living. She invited my wife and me to go and said, “Some people are going to conduct a meeting where there will be prayer in the name of Jesus. In the meeting they will pray for you and your wife and they will talk to us about the Word of God.” I thought about her invitation for a while, and then I thought, “We should go to this meeting and see what they will do. We will see if what they say about Jesus is good.”
So I went to the meeting, and there we listened to three different men who were speaking to everyone about the Gospel. When they were done preaching, several of the Christians prayed for me and my wife, and they also invited us to go to their church.
In 2002, we went to the church, and I heard the Gospel during the Sunday worship service. The message that was preached was on the words, “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life” (John 3:16). He also preached on the verse before that, which says, “Whoever believes will in Him have eternal life” (John 3:15).
These words sank deep down into my heart, and convicted me of my sin. I confessed my sins to the Lord and put my trust in Christ. I realized at that moment that God is the Creator of all things and the Righteous Judge, yet I had always worshiped the creation rather than the Creator. After the service I asked the leaders of the church to come to my home to teach me more and pray with my family, and when they came, my wife and I were very encouraged in our new faith.
In the following months, a group from this church came to visit us every week in our home in order for us to be in fellowship with them. I was able to get a New Testament and I used this for our meetings in our home. After some time, I was able to purchase the complete Bible and I started reading it with much prayer. I now have a peace in my life that I had never experienced before. I have faced many difficult things in my life, but God’s Word continues to sustain and strengthen me and my family. I was very encouraged by our Lord’s words in Isaiah, “Do not fear, for I am with you; Do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, surely I will help you, surely I will uphold you with my righteous right hand” (Isaiah 41:10). In June 2003, I made a public profession of my faith through baptism.
In November 2004, God gave me a burden to work for Him in the ministry of His Word. After I had prayed for a long time about this calling, and after the church had also decided that they also saw the calling on my life, I began working full time for the Lord as a church planter. By God’s grace, the work is growing.
