Spain - Ruben Videira
In September of 2014, Ruben and his family were sent out by Grace Ministries International to begin training pastors in Ruben’s home country through the Berea Bible Seminary in Leon. The seminary focuses on training pastors, elders, and other men in leadership in expository preaching through seminars and conferences. Through Grace Ministries International, HeartCry is helping Ruben and his family with a portion of their monthly support.
It is a blessing to write and thank you for your generosity toward the Lord’s ministry in Leon, Spain. My name is Ruben Videira Soengas, and after completing my studies at the Master’s Seminary, my family and I were sent out by Grace Community Church (Sun Valley, CA) to serve in Northern Spain at the Evangelical Church of Leon and Berea Seminary. It is an absolute joy for us to be here, especially for me, since I grew up in Galicia, in northern Spain. I never expected that in God’s providence I would be serving Him in my own country. It truly is a privilege to see the Lord’s faithfulness to provide for our every need through His people all over the world, including you, in order that we may minister to His church.
The Lord’s abundant grace and generosity has allowed us to be part of the faithful teaching of God’s Word in our church in Leon, helping to spread Christ’s glorious name and a desire to know Him through the Scriptures among people from all over Spain, and even in some neighboring countries. It has been incredible to see the Lord’s work in the lives of the men whom the other professors and I at the Berea Seminary have had the privilege to teach. These men are either elders or serve in a form of leadership in their churches that desire to be better equipped to teach the Word faithfully to their congregations. Many of them have testified that understanding the sufficiency, inerrancy and efficiency of the Word has not only changed their personal lives, but also the lives of their families and churches. Because they have all become more faithful to preach Scripture literally and in its context, they have seen spiritual growth in some of the people of their congregations. Unfortunately, as a result of the preaching of the Scriptures they have also seen rebellion toward the authoritative teaching of the living Word of God. But they are encouraged and desire to stand firm on Scripture, and this is a great incentive to continue studying and growing in Christlikeness ourselves.
We praise the Lord for His work through the seminary. He is good! Among the students that are studying there is even an American missionary to Morocco who travels to Leon to be better equipped, even though he has been in the ministry for twenty-five years. Your giving has also provided the funds for an entire library for Berea. The students will be able to use those resources to further deepen their study of the Word, and that is something that we are greatly thankful for.
By God’s grace, He is using our church and the ministry here to spread His fame throughout Spain. Through members of our church who contended for years with the government, public school students can now attend Evangelical classes, which are now offered in the place of classes on Catholicism and Judaism. The government has also given free land to our church to build a new church building, which is a historical event in this country! The church in Leon also hosts camps and conferences year-round. We also hold the Berea Conferences, where godly preachers come to expound the Word, thereby giving others the opportunity to experience expository preaching, and it even gives some the desire to study at the Berea Seminary.
These are definitely historical times for us and it truly is a privilege to be a part of it. Our greatest desire is that we could serve here until our last breath. The Lord has been very merciful to use your giving through HeartCry to spread the good news of the gospel throughout Spain, and we pray that you would continue to do so in order to shine the light of His glory even brighter.
