Testimony of Conversion
My name is Florin Galateanu. I was born in 1972 to an Orthodox family in the city of Tulcea. I graduated from the Veterinarian Medicine College in Bucharest and then I served in the ministry with Campus Crusade for thirteen years in the city of Iasi. In 1999, I married my wife Cornelia and we have three children: Andrei (8), Hanna (5), and Philip (3). I am blessed by God’s grace.
My journey with God started during my University years. During my childhood and teenage years, I thought that a person was spiritual if they could avoid cursing and blaspheming. Nevertheless, I committed many sins without any remorse. In 1992, I went to the university to study medicine and to work as a veterinarian. Far from my parents’ supervision, I began to live like the majority of students on campus. I did whatever I thought would bring me happiness.
At that point, I had no idea that God was seeking me. One evening two young men came to my door and shared the Gospel with me. There were new things that I heard that challenged my thinking. After three weeks my soul was still troubled because God was working. Finally, I came to experience the new birth, and began to read and study the Bible. I also joined a prayer and Bible study group. I was baptized in 1993 in Bucharest. After that, I began to grow in faith and learn to share the glorious Gospel with others.
After the graduation, I was called to be a missionary among the students. My wife and I were sent as missionaries to Iasi, and we served there from 1998 until 2011. We did evangelism and discipleship among the students on the campuses in Iasi. We also attended the Annunciation Baptist Church where I served with others to evangelize in the suburbs of the city.
In the summer of 2011, we left Campus Crusade and moved to the city of Tulcea. We became members of the Bethel Baptist Church and began to work with pastor Aurel Gacea. We started going out to some of the small churches in the area that were abandoned. We preached and prayed in order to encourage the believers to share the Gospel to the lost. It is our desire to remain in this area of the Danube Delta and take the Gospel to places where it has not been preached.
After visiting many places in the area, I decided to start working in the town of Mahmudia (30,000 people) near the Danube River. There are thirteen believers in a very small congregation. I go twice a week (Friday and Sunday). I also visit people that do not have the knowledge of God.
The county of Tulcea has a population of 260,000 inhabitants and only about 400 of them claim to be evangelical Christians. My heart cries for the 14,000 people that live in the area of the Danube Delta and in the mountains of Macin. I am praying that God will stir the spirit of this people and make them hate their sins and pagan habits. I pray that God will bring a time when the people will seek deliverance from their sinful condition, forgiveness of sins, and the power to live a holy life. I long for such a revival! Till then, I want to do my part in the spreading of the Gospel in this area. I pray that God will work and I will follow Him in what He does.
Pray for my family and me that we may continue to live in obedience and holiness. God has predestined us to such a destiny and has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places. To Him be the glory forever and ever!
