This January had an excellent start to our year with a meeting of quite a few pastors from other areas about “The Characteristics of Leaders.” We conducted an in-depth study of 1 Timothy 3:1-7. One of our most significant needs in Cambodia is to have faithful men as overseers, pastors, and elders who are biblically qualified (pictures of teaching in the village of Komraeng).
In Cambodia, the title of “Pastor” is loosely given out to just about anyone associated with the church. Many biblically unqualified men call themselves “Pastor” and take the pulpit of a local house church, or even a formal church, to preach the Word of God while being completely unqualified to do so according to the Bible.
There is almost no general understanding or practice of biblical church eldership. Thank God that there are now some Khmer church leaders that ARE forming biblical churches, with biblical church eldership, but this is still so very rare.
I am encouraged to see the growth in this area in the Khmer (Cambodian) church.
In addition to pastoring our regular weekly church services in my home church and a nearby village, I was able to share the Gospel in a village in my province named Komraeng, but sadly, people have not opened their hearts to the Gospel and to God’s truth yet, as far as I am aware.
Blessings to you in Christ,
