College Ministry Worker - Middle East
Originally from an East Asian country, Andrew came to faith through Middle East Student Fellowship and now serves with them on full-time staff. He shares the gospel and studies the Bible with students on campus, and leads a team of other MESF staff in his region.
Testimony of Conversion
I’m originally from an East Asian country but I’ve lived the majority of my life in the MENA. Although I grew up going to church, leading worship and helping facilitate youth ministry-related activities, the Gospel was foreign to me and I assumed I was a Christian.
Towards the end of my second year of university here, I came into contact with a staff-worker from the Middle East Student Fellowship on my campus. I was struck by two things. The first was that though he was from a completely different ethnic background, he was interested in spending his time with me. He would meet with me weekly, taking me through the Bible and asking me intentional questions about what I believed about Jesus. I thought he was like a broken record, repeating at the end of each bible discussion each week about man's need for a Savior because of his rebellion against a Holy God.
The second thing that struck me was that there was an unofficial university bible discussion being lead by students near my campus. Since it is a Muslim country, the university would not approve an official Christian club. The gatherings happened at a location nearby. People from different countries and faith backgrounds (including atheists) were in attendance too.
It wasn’t until the following year at a retreat held by the Middle East Student Fellowship that my sin against a Holy God became apparent to me. For the first time in my life I saw my need for a Savior, and that loving Savior is Jesus. It weighed on my heart that He died in my place on that cross so I could be forgiven for my rebellion against God!
I now serve full-time with the Middle East Student Fellowship. My work involves sharing the gospel and studying the Bible with students. I’m excited to be used by God to bring people from darkness into the kingdom of His Son. I love seeing people’s lives change through the gospel. A lot of the campuses I work on are difficult because it’s closed to those from the outside. Nevertheless, God is bringing students from those campuses to us who are interested to hear the gospel. Pray that God would bring many from those campuses to Christ!
