German Banda pastors the Reformed Baptist Church in John Laing, a densely populated and poverty-stricken area of Lusaka, Zambia. In his report two months ago, he told us about a special lady, Sister Iverse, who is assisting him with teaching children’s Sunday school for ages 10-15. He wrote:
“Iverse does not know how to read and write, but I am training her to teach children through pictures and visual aids. She is really doing very well. Pray that she may develop a desire join the literacy class which I have just commenced. Pray for we are in need of teaching materials like books, white or black boards, etc.”
This was not the first time Pastor German had mentioned the need for adult literacy classes in his church (pictured right). Can you imagine being unable to read the Bible for yourself? His call for help stirred us. Thanks to the generosity of our donors, HeartCry was able to provide the funds for whiteboards, teacher and student books, and stationary for the classes. Please pray that this literacy class will also be another means of sharing the gospel with the community.
We also rejoice with Pastor German as he recently reported that he had the wonderful privilege of baptizing five ladies into church membership.
